Derin Thorpe is on a mission to expose the extraordinary beauty in our everyday lives. As a professional videographer and photographer, Derin creates imaginative and inventive content that guides customers to his clients’ products by seeking deeper meaning and building true audience connection through visual storytelling.
Based in New York City, Derin has been creating visual content for more than 15 years. Known as “the stylized documentarian,” Derin’s wide array of notable clients include Nautica, Justice, Ralph Lauren, Bridges to Prosperity, Cross Pens, Royal Caribbean, Nokia, Marriott Hotels, Fiverr and Netflix.
Art is in Derin’s blood. Growing up in California the son of true bohemian parents, there were always multiple projects going on in his home – drawing, sculpture, calligraphy, photography and film. Seeing a print developed in a darkroom for the first time at the age of 12 sparked his passion for creating art behind the camera. He went on to study at Art Center School of Design and eventually moved from LA to New York to pursue his career as a photographer and filmmaker.
With a focus on storytelling, Derin uses his visual and technical talents to connect deeply to humanity. He strives to find unique stories that might ordinarily be overlooked and tell them in a distinctive way that stirs the soul.
Derin has traveled to 47 countries and counting. He loves poodles, vintage BMW’s, jumping into water and making friends with strangers. Over the past 15 years, Derin has created a following that supports his vision and talents, as he supports theirs, to create a modern artistic community. A self-described “hunter-gatherer of honesty and beauty,” Derin is striving to leave the world a bit better than how he found it.
